Today I saw two Bluebirds in the tree outside my office window. Since they haven't migrated, I'm taking this a sign that we will have a mild winter. A girl can dream, right?

The rain over the weekend was great for the fields and the freshly laid sod! I can't believe that a month ago we were worried about too much water. Last week, it was almost too dry in the fields to harvest the sod.

In all our years I have never heard that there is such a thing as "too much water" for your lawn! This year is quite the exception!! Coming out of a drought, who would think this? Some of the concerns we are seeing with lawns this year actually start with too much water, and improper mowing. If you have an established lawn, TURN OFF your sprinkler! Of course, new sod still needs to be watered in sufficiently. Check out the section "how to water sod" under the "How Too" link on the main page!

This cooler weather today is great for sodding! We have a couple of houses being sodded today! I wish this cooler spell would last, but, it looks like the 90's will be back very soon!

I am thankful for the rain, it was getting pretty hot and dry! The local football field that we maintain, really needed this rain!

Personally, I'm ready for some cooler fall weather!

Road Construction

It's everywhere!! If you travel I-35 between Liberty and Cameron, you know what I'm talking about! Seems like this is the "main drag" for a lot of folks. I need to remember to leave earlier when traveling this route because of potential delays! Everyone slow down and it will go smoothly for everyone!

The crew is off to beautify Chillicothe this morning. Hopefully the yards in the city will be dry enough today grade and sod soon!

I have been sick and with out a voice for several days now! My voice is finally coming back today. I'm finding e-mail and texting is still the best way to communicate though as my voice still comes and goes! I've got to get busy returning calls.

I keep thinking spring is here because of all the rain we keep getting! Each day that it starts drying out, I think we will be able to be int he field soon. About the time I start thinking that, it rains again. What's up with that? We had 1.1 inches of rain two nights ago in the heavy thunderstorms that went through. This has left puddles in the fields, AGAIN!!

The sun is shinging bright this morning. It's truly a beautiful morning, even if it doesn't feel warm like spring!

Rain...two inches today, and counting!!

Rain in July, how awesome is that? Rain is always welcome in July. I try to be thankful for rain anytime we receive it here at the farm, it is essential. Two inches? Yes, we dumped two inches out of our rain gage this morning. It just started pouring again!

This presents many challenges. When it's wet, we cannot get into the fields to work. We cannot mow or harvest the sod when the fields are wet.

Do I laugh when I receive a phone call during a down pour wanting to know how soon someone can pick up sod? Maybe silently inside! The good thing is, I can call them when we start to dry out and they can come at that time.
